Lyhyesti suomeksi / Shortly in Finnish

Pikseliähky (Pixelache) on Pohjoismaiden suurin vuosittainen elektronisen taiteen festivaali. Pikseliähky on taidetta, designia, teknologiaa ja tutkimusta yhteen tuova kokeilulaboratorio, jonka ohjelmistosta suurin osa esitetään yleisölle ensimmäistä kertaa. Kiasmassa järjestettävän ohjelman lisäksi festivaali levittäytyy ympäri Helsinkiä näyttelyiden, klubien, työpajojen ja seminaarien muodossa. Festivaalin teemat ottavat myös kantaa ajankohtaisiin yhteiskunnallisiin kysymyksiin. Kiasma-Teatterissa esitetään kaksi musiikkiteosta, jotka perustuvat ihmisen kehon sisäisiin ääniin ja rytmeihin. Heart Chamber Orchestra on muusikoiden omiin sydämenlyönteihin perustuva teos, jonka itävaltalainen duo Terminalbeach (Erich Berger & Peter Votava) esittää yhdessä kahdentoista klassista instrumenttia soittavan muusikon kanssa. Jokaisen muusikon edessä on tietokonenäyttö, jolta he lukevat heidän oman pulssinsa perusteella muuttuvan sävellyksen. Pikseliähkyssä saa ensi-iltansa myös Ona Kamun uusi teos Elektromys, jonka päämateriaalina ovat lihassähkömittauksessa rekisteröidyt äänet. Kiasman Mediateekin näyttely esittelee ensimmäistä kertaa Suomessa yhdysvaltalaisen Golan Levinin teoksia. Golan Levin on elektronisen taiteen professori Carnegie Mellon Universityssä, hänen interaktiiviset teoksensa ovat leikkisiä, visuaalisia maailmoja jotka reagoivat yleisön ääniin, liikkeisiin tai kasvojen ilmeisiin. Carnegie Mellonista Pikseliähkyn vieraaksi saapuu myös useita robotiikan tutkijoita, jotka ovat yhteistyössä taiteilija Axel Straschnoyn kanssa kehittäneet puhdasta robottitaidetta: taidetta jota robotit esittävät toisille roboteille. Työn tulokset esitellään Keravan taidemuseon Kuinka rakentaa astianpesukone -näyttelyssä. Kiasman aulan Taka-ikkunassa nähdään yhdysvaltalaisten Britta Rileyn and Rebecca Brayn suunnittelema projekti Window Farms, hydroponinen ikkunapuutarha, joka rakentavat kierrätys- ja erikoismateriaaleista Mikko Laajola, Andrew Paterson, Niko Punin ja Ulla Taipale. Tämä installaatio on osa Herbologies / Foraging Networks -ohjelmakokonaisuutta, joka tutkii yrtteihin ja keräiltävään ruokaan liittyvän perinnetiedon ja digitaalisen kulttuurin kohtaamista. Pikseliähkyn aloitteesta on syntynyt kansainvälinen festivaalien verkosto, Pixelache Network, johon kuuluvat tällä Pixelvärk (Tukholma), Piksel (Bergen), Pikslaverk (Reykjavik), Mal au Pixel (Pariisi), PixelIST (Istanbul), Pixelazo (Santa Marta, Kolumbia) ja Afropixel (Dakar, Senegal). Aki Kaurismäki film with a live soundtrack by Vladislav Delay

Vladislav Delay will perform a live soundtrack to the film “I hired a contract killer” (1990) by cult Finnish director Aki Kaurismäki. Sasu Ripatti aka Vladislav Delay is a Finnish musician who is known for his personal distinct sound, a slowly evolving ambient soundscape with complex, jazzy rhythms. Sasu Ripatti is a highly prolific artist who has experimented with various music styles under acronyms such as Uusitalo, Luomo, Conoco and Sistol. >> More information >> Press picture

Heart Chamber Orchestra

Heart Chamber Orchestra is an audiovisual performance with an orchestra of 12 classical musicians from the defunensemble and Uusinta ensemble, and the artist duo Terminalbeach. Using their heartbeats, the musicians control a computer composition and visualization environment. The musical score is generated in real time by the heartbeats of the musicians. Herbologies/Windowfarm

The Herbologies/Foraging Networks programme of events explores the cultural traditions and knowledge of herbs, edible and medicinal plants, within the contemporary context of online networks, open information-sharing, biological and hydroponic technologies. As part of the process a new localised manifestation of the Windowfarms Project in Finland was created, using local specialist (hydroponic and LED growing technologies) and recycled materials. IHME Club

IHME Club 2010 is co-organised by IHME 2010 and Pixelache. It will be held at Vanha Student House on Saturday 27.3. The club’s main act is Slagsmålsklubben from Sweden. Also performing the Finnish band Black Horse. Legendary Jaakko Eino Kalevi and Amon Düde will be the evening’s DJs. As for the visual part, a special guest from Denmark Sune Petersen aka Motorsaw and Sakke Soini from Finland. Art Meets Energy Consumption

Pixelache and Helsinki Energy are collaborating to produce artworks related to collective energy consumption in Helsinki area. The Invisible City

The Invisible City project explores the city not just as formed by physical space, but also as a collective construction, made up of the memories, desires and experiences of its inhabitants. It consists of a series of events, including a film screening accompanied by a live soundtrack, a workshop in public space, and an exhibition at Myymälä2 featuring work by visual artists from Barcelona. >> More info >> Press pictures

Signals from the South / Anisotropics Exhibition

The exhibition titled Anisotropics (as part of Pixelache's annual Signals from the South programme), presents a series of works by Shaina Anand and Ashok Sukumaran (India). How to Make a Dishwasher exhibition


How to build a dishwasher is the first exhibition of a collaborative research project intiated by Axel Straschnoy and Paul Scerri and developed at the Robotics Institute of Carnegie Mellon University. It will take place at the Kerava Art Museum, Finland, from March 26 until May 30, 2010. The project has as objective to find out what kind of art robots make for other robots. Two robots were designed and built: One that can make performance art and another one that can watch it.
